Cengage Learning’s Boston office gathered more than 100 volunteers to Boston Garden to not only see the Bruins and Celtics play but also to make a difference to the lives of many students returning to Boston Public Schools in September. These employees had the opportunity to volunteer at Boston’s Back to School Celebration. This event was created by a partnership between the Salvation Army and Garden Neighborhood Charities (TD Garden) and the city.
Volunteers filled over 4000 backpacks with pencils, pens and other supplies Monday morning to help students get started. The backpacks were also filled with inspirational notes to motivate students to have a great schoolyear. On Tuesday, employees gave these backpacks to the children during the Back to School Celebration Day. They also enjoyed games, family-friendly activities and experiential learning booths.
Cengage Learning employees and Cengage Learning as a whole are committed to student success. This event gave us an opportunity to live out our core values and provided us with a way to do so. George Moore, Cengage Learning Chief Technology Officer, explained to us that they were looking for events in Boston to reflect the essence of their new credo. Cengage Learning’s Back to School celebration in Boston was a great example. It was all about preparing children for school. Participation in the event was an opportunity for us to become more connected to the Boston community, to help families and kids in need, and to show how our business can make a difference in the communities we live in.
