People are what make projects happen. Projects are done by people, whether it’s you or a group of hundreds.
Project management is all about working with people. You must know how to motivate your team members and get them to work when it is most convenient. This is what project resource management is.
This article will explain what projectresourcemanagement is, show you how to do it, give you tips and describe the tools that can help, and offer some solutions to common problems.

Definition of Resource Management
Let’s begin by defining resourcemanagement.
Resource management is simply the art of planning, obtaining and using the resources you need efficiently.
What are the types of resource?
What kind of resource are you talking about?
Most commonly, we mean people when we refer to a “project resource”. But, a resource could also refer to:
You need to book or hire a room or other facilities
Equipment such as a cement mixer and a sewing machine
Raw “ingredients”, such as sand, flour, or other materials
Services such as credit card processing
Software and hardware for IT
Items that will be used as part of this project, such as flyers you distribute to promote your new cafe opening,
And the most important:
Money. Cash is a great resource for projects.
Resources are generally people, money, or goods that you require to complete your project.
The Project Resource Management Process
This project resource management process is based on A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide(r), – Sixth Edition), with my own explanations. These are the steps you would take to manage the resources for the project.
There is now a new edition of the PMBOK(r), the Seventh Edition, which comes with The Standard for Project Management. Although the book doesn’t specifically address processes, it does discuss the importance of creating a collaborative environment as well as good stewardship for the project and the team.
For more information, see the 12 principles of project managing. The Standards Plus resource, which is only available to PMI members, covers a wide variety of topics. It can be found on the PMI website.

Plan the resources you will need to complete the project. This involves creating a large list based on discussions with your team and using information from your Project Charter, plan, and general business knowledge. The roles and responsibilities can be created, as well as a RACI matrix and a resource breakdown structure.
You might also want to document how you will estimate the time required to complete this task, how you plan to ‘win’ scarce resources and what risks you might face in securing these resources.
All of this information is included in yourResource Management Plan. It’s easier to include this, according to my experience.
