Amazon Web Services now offers an enterprise-grade version its cloud-based data analysis and visualization service.
Amazon QuickSight Enterprise Edition was launched by the company late last week, approximately one month after the release of the lighter-weight Standard Edition.
QuickSight was first announced at the 2015 re-Invent conference. It allows users to organize, visualize, interact and share data from different AWS sources. The service runs on SPICE, a super-fast parallel in-memory computing engine.
The Enterprise Edition is different from the Standard Edition in that it integrates with Microsoft’s Active Directory service.
“The Enterprise Edition supports user authentication via AWS Managed Microsoft Active Directory. QuickSight users can sign in to QuickSight with credentials they already have in their AWS-hosted Microsoft AD, or a trusted on premises AD. In either case, Single Sign On (SSO), allows your users to get started faster and with less overhead,” said Jeff Barr, AWS evangelist.
Barr stated that the Enterprise Edition includes the ability to encrypt data at rest using keys managed by Amazon to provide an additional layer protection.
AWS offers QuickSight Enterprise Edition in both an annual and monthly subscription, just like the Standard Edition. An annual subscription costs $18 per user per calendar month, while a month-to-month subscription costs $24 each user per calendar month.
Both plans include 10GB SPICE capacity. You can also purchase additional capacity at $0.38 per month.
