Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), announced yesterday that Amazon QuickSight, which is used for Big Data analytics and was now generally available.
Amazon QuickSight is described as an affordable tool for business intelligence (BI) and was extensively tested by more than 1,500 organizations in a preview that lasted more than a year.
AWS spokesperson Jeff Barr stated that Amazon QuickSight offers cloud-powered business analytics at a fraction of the cost of traditional on premises solutions in a blog post yesterday. QuickSight allows you to get started in just minutes. Log in, point to a source of data, and you can begin visualizing your data. The SPICE (Super-fast Parallel, In-Memory Calcation Engine) will run your queries in lightning speed and provide highly polished data visualizations.
These data sources include AWS services such as Amazon Redshift, Amazon RDS (relational Database Service), Amazon Aurora (MySQL compatible database), and Amazon S3 (“object storage”) — as well as databases (via connectors), that can be hosted on-premises and in the cloud.
Future support will be provided for hooking into Amazon EMR, Amazon DynamoDB (NoSQL), and Amazon Kinesis (streaming) as well as other cloud applications.
QuickSight connects to your data and can slice and dice it, as well as present it in different ways. It will also recommend data visualizations based on the nature and context of the dataset. The tool also suggests graph types that are most appropriate for the data being analyzed using algorithms that learn from previous analyses.
QuickSight can be used with other BI solutions like Domo, Tableau and Qlik. This allows users to use QuickSight’s SPICE technology to quickly query large datasets.
QuickSight is available in the US East (Northern Virginia), US West(Oregon) or EU (Ireland) regions. The Standard edition starts at $9 per month and requires a one year commitment. Standard edition is also available. A Free Tier option and an Enterprise edition are also available.
